#1 This Week: 1/3/11

1/5/1980

We rolled into a new decade with a new #1 record with a disco-group with a new sound.

K.C. & The Sunshine Band had been known as the disco group with the catchy fast songs like; That’s The Way (I Like It), Keep It Comin’ Love & Get Down Tonight and were staples at the dance clubs in the 70′s.

K.C. & The Sunshine Band stayed away from ballads, feeling that they didn’t want to bore their audience, but when they released “Do You Wanna Go Party?” in 1979 they decided to slow down the beat.

So, with the dawn of 1980, Harry Wayne Casey slowed down the beat to ring in their 1st #1 hit since 1977.

This would be the last album K.C. did with the Sunshine Band before being convinced to go solo.
