April 5, 1980

Welcome back to the beginning of the work week. Yes, Monday. It's probably the longest and toughest day of the week, but the good news is that it's time to check in with the #1 song this week in 1980.

The top five songs on the chart this week had some pretty strong contenders. Three of them would, at some point, would hit number one.

#5-Kool & The Gang-"Too Hot"

#4-Queen-"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" (was #1 for four weeks)

I always thought Elvis could have done this one had he still be alive.

#3-Blondie-"Call Me" (next week would hit #1 and stay there for SIX weeks)

From the Richard Gear movie "American Gigolo."

#2-Spinners-"Working My Way Back To You/Forgive Me, Girl

A cover of the the top 10 hit from the 4 Seasons.

-"Another Brick In The Wall"

I remember the #1 song was all the talk when I was in Jr. High. mostly for the lines "We don't need no education," "Hey Teacher, leave us kids alone." It would be Pink Floyd's biggest commercial success, where it would stay at #1 for a total of 4 weeks.
