Two people were displaced after a fire broke out in their garage Thursday night.

The fire started around 9:29 PM in a home in the 1700 Block of Southern Draw Drive. Units arriving reported heavy smoke with fire showing from the front of the attached garage with a vehicle parked inside. One occupant was safely outside when fire crews reached the scene.

While extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered a leaking automobile fuel tank. The homeowner was home when the fire broke out and had atempted to fight the flames using a portable fire extinguisher.

The garage and attic received heavy fire damage, while a bedroom and hallway received smoke and heat damage. The vehicle inside the garage was destroyed.

A preliminary dollar loss to the house and contents is estimated in excess of $75,000. The American Red Cross is working with the family to determine their immediate needs while fire investigators work to determine the cause of the fire. There were no injuries.
