It's almost time to celebrate our day of independence and what better way to do that then with music. There are so many songs to choose from that pay homage to our great country, but I drilled it down to five of my favorites. Of course, I welcome you to add to this list, since this is in no way complete. I've also added one that will make you go, 'what?' Let's call it the 'bonus' song and here is why I have included it.

One year I was asked to produce the musical soundtrack for the 4th of July fireworks show in Pismo Beach, California. I was working at a classic rock station, so most of the songs I used came from that type of format. It was a 20-minute show and I wanted it to end on a big finish, so I needed a song that captured all the rapid fire explosions that would take place. Sort of like a storm giving it's last ditch effort to be really, really mean before exhausting itself out. Watch the video below and when you get towards the last minute of the song, imagine that every cannon blast is accompanied by a rapid fire fireworks display and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Have a very safe and happy fourth of July and enjoy my musical suggestions to celebrate America.

  • Charlie Daniels Band - In America

  • Martina McBride - Independence Day

  • Neil Diamond - America

  • Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA

  • Whitney Houston - The Star Spangled Banner
