Odds are if you have lived in Amarillo and have been downtown, you have seen the Herring Hotel.  It is the old hotel that sits on 3rd street, between Buchanan and Taylor.   Back in the day it was a beautiful, top notch hotel.  Now 88 years later, it is a ghost of its old self.  However, some really amazing photographers have brought it back to life. The hotel was built back in 1926 by rancher Cornelius Taylor Herring.  It was was one of three oil boom hotels that were built in the 1920's and it is the only one still standing from that time in Amarillo.

It is a piece of history. An amazing piece of history.

David and Loretta Corbin with the ArtGecko Gallery in Sunset Center got together with the owner of the Herring Hotel and put together a wonderful photography contest called Shoot the Herring.  They asked photographers to come and photograph the hotel.  In essence, they wanted these photographers to bring it back to life and they did.

Some amazing photographs were submitted and will be featured in a photographic exhibit.
