Do you have those moments in life where you stop and think, "Is this seriously happening, I have so much going on and this is the cherry on top of the poop pile."  I had one of those moments this weekend.  I went to the bathroom to ya know take care of some business.  The water was so clear because the toilet was clean and I didn't notice until my booty got a bath.

My son had clogged up the toilet.  He told me he used too much toilet paper.  That must have been a lot of toilet paper.  I had my doubts about what he was telling me because when he was younger he flushed one of his small toy boats down the toilet because the "Navy Guys" need to take a trip.  I asked him several times if there was anything else he flushed and he said no, so I embarked on my very frustrating journey.

I grabbed an old Pak-A-Sak cup and started removing the excess toilet water and dumping it in the bathtub (which will be bleached heavily before using again).  Once I got the levels down, I grabbed the plunger and went to town.  OK, I had plunged enough so flush...yep it flooded again so here I go removing the excess water, again.

Well it became apparent that the plunger wouldn't work, so I ventured into my garage (which is a disaster area and a project for a different day), to find the auger, or the toilet snake.  Yay!  I found it buried under a pile of boxes (how convenient).  I got it shoved into the toilet and I turned it and twisted it and some paper came floating up.  I grabbed the plunger, plunge, plunge, plunge.  Flush! here comes the flood again.

Defeated, I walked out of the bathroom with tears welling up in my eyes.  I don't have money for a plumber.  So I took a deep breath and walked over and grabbed my laptop and started Googling how to unstop a clogged toilet.

I found tons of advice, but it was the steps I had already taken.  Then I found one site, The Art of Manliness, and what I found was a weird suggestion.

Secret Plumber Trick: Add Hot Water and dishwasher detergent. Add a few cups of hot water to the toilet bowl before you start plunging. After you pour the hot water in, let it sit for a few minutes. To put it mildly, the heat helps break the, um, stuff up. This will make unclogging the toilet with the plunger much, much easier. The heat from the hot water can sometimes break up the clog without plunging, so this could be a good tactic to use if you a clog a toilet at a friends house and you don’t want to face the embarrassment of asking for a plunger.

So that is what I did, I boiled some water in the microwave and poured it in the toilet and let it sit for about an hour.  Plunge, Plunge, Plunge!  Flush,  no flood, the awesome noise of the water being sucked down the toilet.

So just know ladies that  YOU CAN ROAR!  You can unclog the toilet on your own.  Don't let it defeat you!

I guarantee you I felt more powerful in that moment that I have in a long time.

The internet is the greatest invention in the world!  It allowed me to defeat a clogged toilet!
