Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ Becomes Biggest Digital-Selling Song Ever By a Female Artist
Adele is just as good at breaking records as she is at singing on them. The British powerhouse’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ just became the biggest digital selling song ever by a woman — and the second biggest digital song ever.Billboard reports that Adele’s anthem is the biggest digital single by a female artist ever in the United States, and the second biggest worldwide. After selling 99,000 copies just last week, the chanteuse surpassed Lady Gaga’s ‘Pokerface,’ which moved 6.62 million units, to sell 6.68 million copies. The only other track in her way to the top is the ever-infectious Black Eyed Peas’ ‘I Gotta Feeling’ at 7.82 million. We somehow don’t doubt she’ll be able to swing it for the record!
The landmark is just the latest in a series of accolades and records for the ‘Someone Like You’ singer. In its 21st week at No. 1, ’21′ beat Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack for the most weeks at No. 1 ever by a woman.
In addition, Adele is also the first woman in the entire history of the Hot 100 chart to have three singles in the Top 10 at one time, with ‘Set Fire to the Rain,’ ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘Rolling in the Deep’ all concurrently in the top tier. Only four other artists or groups have ever done that: Chris Brown in 2008, Usher in 2004, the Bee Gees in 1978 and the Beatles in 1964.
Looks like she won’t have too tough a time paying off that $6 million mansion, huh? Congrats, Adele!
