Adventures in Education – Panhandle Plains Museum Schedule

Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning on June 9th, an education staff member will be available in People of the Plains, Art and Paleontology/Geology to discuss a different topic each week. People of the Plains will be the featured exhibit on Monday, Art on Wednesday and Paleontology/Geology on Friday. Programs will last about 15 minutes and staff will be in the galleries from 2-4 pm.  Visitors will have the opportunity to complete an activity or craft to take home too!
Below is the 10 week schedule:

Week 1
Monday – Indian Trunk – Bear Claw Necklaces
Wednesday – Landscapes of the West – Wax resist watercolor paintings
Friday – Amarillo Mountains – Erosion and oil – Sand art

Week 2
Monday – Cowboy Trunk – Make your own brand
Wednesday – Western Animal Art – Use tissue paper to create texture
Friday – Animal Teeth – Carnivores vs. Herbivores – Create clay animal tooth necklaces

Week 3
Monday – Transportation – Plane, Train, Car
Wednesday – Wild About Animals – Wildlife Sketching
Friday – Climate and Camouflage – Play the camouflage game

Week 4
Monday – Textiles – Finger weaving
Wednesday – Printmaking – Using Styrofoam plates
Friday – Fossils – Make a fossil in clay to take home

Week 5
Monday – Bison Trunk – Nickel Book and Bison Collage
Wednesday – Modern Madonnas – Sketch the Madonna in your life
Friday – How did Palo Duro Canyon form? – Sand art layer bottle

Week 6
Monday – Cowboy Clothing – Bandana
Wednesday – What’s in an Artist’s Workshop? – Still life drawing
Friday – Prehistoric mammals – Fossilization game

Week 7
Monday – Housing – Tipi – Log cabin
Wednesday – Basket Bonanza – Making paper baskets
Friday – Cretaceous Inland Sea – Marine reptiles – make an ammonite

Week 8
Monday – Cowboy – Footprint horse
Wednesday – Art in the Outdoors – plein air painting
Friday – Phytosaurs – plentiful fossils here – fossil flip book

Week 9
Monday – Indian Trunk – Headdress
Wednesday – Sculpture – Clay
Friday – Bison Evolution – Bison Puppet

Week 10
Monday – Chuckwagon – make a chuckwagon
Wednesday – Beadwork – make bracelets or bookmarks
Friday – Ogallala Aquifer – make water filters

Programs are free with paid museum admission and reservations aren’t required.
