If you have ever been to the Amarillo Civic Center, chances are you have probably walked by the Visitors Information Center.

For many years, the visitors center has been helping travelers find the best activities, events, places to stay, or spots to eat around town, almost like the city's own "concierge desk".

Last week at the City Council meeting, the topic of the night was the 2016-2017 budget and how the city could save money. The council members determined that closing the visitors center doors would be in the best interest for Amarillo. They predicted the closing would save upwards of $100,000 a year.

The Texas Travel and Information Center will still be around to help travelers find fun stuff to do in Amarillo, just without a store front. As far as Amarillo-themed souvenirs go, travelers will have to head further down I-40 to the Big Texan to find them.

The Visitors Information Center's last day of business will be on September 23rd, 2016.
