Some of the major events that were happening this week in 1980 included;

A major heatwave continued in the Southwest, Pres. Jimmy Carter signed a bill to set aside a space on The Mall for a Vietnam vets memorial, American hostages in Iran begin nine months of captivity, the Wimbledon finals begins, severe thunderstorms and tornadoes ravage the Midwest, USA's Shawn Weatherly was crowned the 29th Miss Universe and the Olympic flame arrives in the Ukraine.

(Here is a complete list of events that happened during the week)

Pop radio was playing a little bit of everything at this time. Country artist's like, Eddie Rabbitt, Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers were crossing over with major success. Even though disco was 'dead' by now, some songs were still holding on. But, the overall vibe of the chart would be 'soft rock.' A former Beatle, a Jackson (that wasn't Michael) and a guy from Detroit were all in the Top 10.

I present to you Amarillo's Top 10 from the week of July 5, 1980.
