This month the Amarillo Public Library has chosen Rescue Road: One Man, Thirty Thousand Dogs, and a Million Miles on the Last Hope Highway by Peter Zheutlin.  This book is the story of Greg Mahle.  Greg runs a dog rescue transport service and he travels Florida, Louisiana and Texas.  He transports unwanted dogs from the South up to the North to find their forever homes.

The author, Peter Zheutlin, became interested in Mahle's story when his family adopted a rescue dog from Rescue Road Trips, Mahle's company.   The author then traveled with Mahle observing how they rescued the dogs and met many volunteers along the way.
