Fans of 'Insidious' know that the first film ended with one final twist and a bit of a cliffhanger, so it came as no surprise when 'Insidious 2' was announced. Of course, there was always the big question of whether or not it would live up to the sheer terror of the first. With the arrival of the 'Insidious 2' trailer, however, the answer appears to be yes.
Many 'Star Trek' fans felt personally betrayed when director J.J. Abrams ditched the series and jumped ship to 'Star Wars: Episode 7.' After all, the two iconic science fiction franchises have been embroiled in a silly war among fans for decades now -- either you're in one camp or the other, it seems. But how would Trekkies feel if Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, took a journey to the 'Star Wars' universe?
The first 'Man of Steel' clip has arrived! Is it a thrilling scene of Superman in flight? Is it an action-packed throwdown between Superman and Zod? No! It's...Lois Lane (Amy Adams) getting chewed out by her editor, Perry White (Laurence Fishburne). Huh.
Hugh Jackman has been playing the clawed, mutant superhero Wolverine since the first 'X-Men' movie back in 2000; a run that has spanned six films. Like all things that last longer than a decade, it's starting to get a little old for Jackman. Although we can still look forward to his take on the iconic superhero in 'The Wolverine' and 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' it sounds like Jackman's days as an X-Man are coming to a close.
How rare is it for a Will Smith sci-fi blockbuster to not open at number one at the box office? Also, how horrible must it feel for a Will Smith sci-fi blockbuster to not only get beaten by the second week of a long running franchise about fast cars, but by a magician thriller headlined by Jesse Eisenberg?
Ridley Scott's science-fiction classic 'Blade Runner' may be more than 30 years old, but it still feels as fresh and exciting as it did upon release back in 1982. Perhaps that's why the current rights-holders (who acquired the name in 2011) are so fervent about creating a sequel -- it's a pre-built universe that feels like it's ready for dozens of additional stories. And with the news that a new writer has been attached to rewrite the script, it appears that we may be seeing a sequel sooner rather than later.
The 'Expendables' franchise is built entirely on the idea that watching a whole bunch of movie stars (from former legends to C-listers) kill a whole bunch of people will make for a good time at the movies. Franchise star and chief creative voice Sylvester Stallone has promised that 'The Expendables 3' will up the ante in every way and the news that Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich are in talks to join the cast has us believing him.
Now that 'Iron Man 3' has arrived and made all of the money in the world, it's time for Marvel fans to turn their attention to 'Thor 2,' which is six long months away. We've already seen a trailer and a poster, but much of the film still remains shrouded in mystery. Today we get a bunch of new 'Thor 2' pics, but do they shed more light on what we can expect?
The final 'Monsters University' trailer is here and it gives us our best look yet at the latest film from Pixar. Although we're still not completely sold on this one (more on that in a bit), a Pixar release is generally a cause for celebration and animation fans will find much to appreciate here.
With 'Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters' only a few months away, it's time that we got down to brass tacks and started asking the important questions. Questions like "Was anyone, anywhere, actually looking forward to another 'Percy Jackson' movie?" Snark aside, the new 'Sea of Monsters' trailer goes a long way to justifying its existence by showing off lots of monsters. Lots and lots of monsters.
What looked like one of the big box office showdowns of the summer turned out to not be battle at all. Not only did 'Fast and Furious 6' take the number one spot at the box office, it did it while shattering records, leaving 'The Hangover Part 3' coughing on its exhaust.
The current discussion around 'The Avengers 2' has shifted from the stars demanding higher pay to something equally inside baseball: the rights to the characters of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. In the pages of the comics, they're mutants and Avengers, which has led to a pretty sticky situation. Fox, who has the X-Men rights, plans to use Quicksilver for the upcoming 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' Marvel and writer/director Joss Whedon plan to use him for 'Avengers 2.' This conflict remained hidden when Whedon went on Late Night to chat about the characters with Jimmy Fallon.
