March 31th, The Eiffel Tower was finished, Jimi Hendrix lit a guitar on fire, the Doobie Brothers broke up, and both Brandon Lee and Selena died.

1870 - Thomas Peterson Mundy cast his ballot in a New Jersey municipal election;  he was the first black man to vote after the 15th Amendment was ratified.

1889 - Construction on the EIFFEL TOWER was officially completed.

1932 - FORD unveiled its new V-8 ENGINE.

1967 - JIMI HENDRIX set his guitar on fire for the first time during a concert in London.

1982 - Americans openly wept in the streets when the DOOBIE BROTHERS announced their break-up!  The band's dominance started in the '70s with the #11 jam "Listen To The Music".

1991 - "Wrestlemania 7" became the largest pay-per-view TV program in history!

1993 - BRANDON LEE died on the set of "The Crow" after being shot in the stomach with a gun that was supposed to be loaded with blanks.

1995 - SELENA was shot to death in Corpus Christi, Texas, by the founder of her fan club.  Yolanda Saldivar was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

1999 - Three U.S. Army soldiers were captured by Serb forces near the Yugoslavia-Macedonia border.

Staff Sergeant Andrew Ramirez, Staff Sergeant Christopher Stone and Specialist Steven M. Gonzales were released more than a month later, after they were rescued by JESSE JACKSON!

1999 - Four New York City police officers were charged with murder for killing AMADOU DIALLO, an unarmed African immigrant, in a hail of bullets.  For some reason, the officers were later acquitted.

2005 - TERRI SCHIAVO died after having her feeding tube removed.  Six weeks later, an autopsy confirmed that she was indeed brain-dead.
