Last night I got sucked into a movie.  You know how that happens, you sit down, flip on the TV, and you just sit there and watch and the next thing you know you are invested in the movie.  Well that happened to me with the movie "Big Miracle".  It was based on a true story about 3 grey whales being trapped in the ice in Barrow, Alaska in 1988.  The thing that kept running through my mind was, why don't I remember this event?

I was 11-years old when this happened and it was all over National News and I don't remember the race to save the grey whales, Fred, Wilma, and Bam Bam.  I wasn't sheltered from the news either.  My mom would watch ABC News, then ProNews 7, then Wheel of Fortune every night so I know the news was on.

I like whales.  I liked whales then, so I'm at a loss at why I don't remember this heroic story to save the whales.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

However, it was a good movie starring John Krasinski, Drew Barrymore, Ted Danson, Dermot Mulroney,  and Kristen Bell.  As with all  based on a true story movies, they add things that didn't happen in real life for dramatic effect.

Here's a nice article about the event and the movie.

Anyway, here is the trailer to the movie and videos from the actual event.

Do you remember this event?
