The stars were shining brightly in the California desert for the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday (Jan. 4).

The unofficial kick-off event of the Hollywood awards season, the International Awards Gala boasted a bevy of A-listers, including Bradley Cooper, Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Matthew McConaughey and Amy Adams.

"Seventeen hours of masonry put me together after the new year," joked Roberts, who won the Spotlight Award for her role in 'August: Osage County.' "I thought they should give us a couple of days to get up to speed. But it's exciting."

While other several trophies were also handed out at the event, celebs really had their eyes on the big prize: the Academy Awards. An appearance at the Palm Springs fest can boost a star's chances at an Oscar nomination -- ballots from Academy members are due Wednesday (Jan. 8), after all!
