Bruno Mars to Host + Perform on ‘SNL’
Bruno Mars will be on double-duty as host and performer of NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ on Oct. 20! This will be the ‘Grenade’ crooner’s second time appearing on the show but his first time as the host.
While Mars is not known for his acting skills, we do know that he has a sense of humor. From monkeying around in his ‘Lazy Song‘ video to rocking his pelvis in gold shorts in the ‘Funny or Die’ clip (see below), the singer-guitarist has the comedic chops to hang with the “Not Ready for Primetime” players. Mars follows behind past SNL double-duty artists like Justin Timberlake and Mick Jagger.
In the meantime, Mars will premiere his new single ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ today (Oct. 1) from his upcoming second album ‘Unorthodox Jukebox.’ Mars says the collection is a departure from his sunshine-y, radio-friendly tunes that inhabited his last effort ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans.’
The Grammy-winning artist revealed in his Billboard cover story that he tackles dark subjects of drugs and the flip side of being a pop star. “They made me change a couple of things on ['Doo-Wops'] and I felt disgusted about that. I didn’t do that on this album,” says Mars. “If I can’t be me doing it, I’m not going to have any fun. If I’m changing things around because people might think it’s a hard pill to swallow — like, ‘Wait a minute, this isn’t the Bruno we know’ — then I’m going to feel like a circus clown onstage, selling something fake.”
As for critics who think he makes sappy music for the pop charts, Mars feels they are tone deaf. “If you can’t hear the sentiment, as sappy as you want to call it, then maybe you’re a piece of s—,” he says. “But if I was getting sappier we’d have a problem, then it would just be mush.”
Bruno Mars’ ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ will hit stores on Dec. 11.
