As the city embarks on the downtown redevelopment, they are in the process of getting things ready and getting the area updated.  With the redevelopment residents have to be prepared for the construction interrupting their commutes.   If you travel downtown especially on Buchanan, you are going to have to find alternate routes to get to your destination.

The City of Amarillo announced that they will be shutting down Buchanan street in downtown Amarillo for three weeks.  The street will be closed between 6th St. and 10th avenue.  They are in the process of updating the storm sewer and the new SPS headquarters.

The biggest area that will be affected by the construction will be the Amarillo Civic Center, City Hall, Globe News Center, and the Amarillo Public Library, plus a handful of businesses that are on the street.  However, they city has made a plan to make access to these businesses easier.

If you travel on a regular basis on Buchanan,  traffic will be detoured starting at 10th Avenue.  If you are traveling to the Civic Center use 3rd Avenue.  If you are needing to get to City Hall use Lincoln Street.   The City will still have business access for those businesses on Buchanan from 10th to 8th.

The City of Amarillo would like to thank you for your patience during this project.
