The clear frontrunner of ‘The Voice‘ is none other than Cassadee Pope, former lead singer of the pop-punk band Hey Monday. She was discovered by Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, and her band found moderate to semi-high amounts of fame, so the girl from Florida has quite the backing, if you catch our drift.
This week she planned to take on a Keith Urban
song, and if there’s anything we learned about Pope this season on the show, it’s that she’s strongest vocally when carrying a country tune. Many have said she should go the country route from now on, but she seems hesitant to completely leave the genre that put her name on the map and made her a familiar face.
But before taking the stage, we were treated to footage similar to the prior two contestants: she traveled back to her hometown of West Palm Beach to visit her family, boyfriend and friends; to chat with the radio station she grew up listening to and to put on an outdoor concert for her loved ones and fans from back home. She also received a key to the city from the mayor! The girl obviously owns the stage when she walks across it, so it’s no wonder she has the insane following she has.
In a blush colored mermaid style gown filled with enough sparkle to see from the moon, she gave a pretty performance of ‘Stupid Boy,’ clearly confirming our thoughts that she should stick with the country genre should she win the competition. She started off quiet and shaky, but found her footing quickly, managing to give an emotional showing of the Urban song.
What were the coaches’ thoughts? Christina
said her voice almost sounds auto-tuned because it’s so perfect at times; her coach Blake Shelton
mentioned that the reason he has given her so many country songs is because she has the ability to connect with the lyrics in a particular way, something he hasn’t seen in a performer before.
