It definitely wasn't an accident that the mayor of New York played by Michael Lerner in the 1998 American remake 'Godzilla' was both was named Mayor Ebert and looked suspiciously like late film critic Roger Ebert. He even had a loyal sidekick named Gene. Very creative, guys.

Ebert, a renowned film critic on television and in print, would go on to pan the movie, calling it "a big, ugly, ungainly device to give teenagers the impression they're seeing a movie." A Pulitzer Prize-winner in criticism, Ebert was the only film critic to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Sadly, he died on April 4, 2013, due to complications from cancer.

If Lerner looks familiar, that's because he's acted in over 160 movies and television shows, including 'Elf,' 'Glee,' 'The Good Wife,' 'Entourage,' 'Law & Order: SVU,' and 'Kingdom Hospital.' After working on 'Godzilla,' he went on to lend his voice to the same-named animated series alongside Ian Ziering (who's everywhere these days).
