Will Coldplay Perform at 2012 Olympic Games?

As one of the U.K.’s greatest exports and possibly the biggest band in the world right now, Coldplay are pretty much guaranteed to perform at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, right? Nothing is confirmed, but the band seemed to hint at a possible Olympic performance in a new interview with ET Canada.

When asked if his band will be at the Olympics, frontman Chris Martin coyly replied, “Us doing the hurdles? That’s just not true.”

So if there’s an official announcement coming about Coldplay at the Olympics, it will have to wait. Given the group’s worldwide success and stadium-sized sound, it will be more of a surprise if the guys don’t end up in London participating in the Games in some fashion. The Olympics take place from July 27 to Aug. 12.

Spin reports that the opening ceremony will include mostly U.K. bands, including Snow Patrol and Duran Duran, while the closing ceremony will feature Blur and New Order. Jay-Z and Rihanna will headline BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend, a festival a month before the games begin, where Florence + the Machine, David Guetta and Flo Rida will also appear.
