‘Conan’ Continues: TBS Late-Night Series Picked Up Through 2018

Conan OBrien TBS 2018 Renewal
TBS

We’ve had plenty of upsets across the late-night landscape in recent weeks, now that Larry Wilmore has been announced to take over ‘The Colbert Report’ slot from Stephen Colbert, who himself will take over for David Letterman’s ‘Late Show,’ going head to head with Jimmy Fallon‘s new ‘Tonight Show.’ At least one host is staying in his place, however, as TBS guaranteed Conan O’Brien‘s ‘Conan‘ to run through 2018.

The move isn’t altogether surprising, considering that ‘Conan’ recently signed for a week of shows to be broadcast from San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, a clear show of support for the former ‘Late Night’ host to remain with TBS amid all the various upheavals on the broadcast networks. For his part, ‘Conan’ averages about 862,000 viewers in Live + 7 delivery (people who watched the show live plus those who watched on DVR within seven days) for the year to date, and draws a larger audience in the adult 18-34 demographic than any of the competition.

Says TBS of the announcement:

Over the past four years, we have built a terrific relationship with Conan O’Brien and are thrilled to be extending his series for another three years. Conan has not only brought an incredibly young audience to TBS but has also created a digital presence that draws millions of fans to his unique brand of comedy.

In addition, Conan has taken his show on the road for memorable weeks in New York, Atlanta and last month in Dallas, and will be breaking new ground next year when CONAN becomes the first late-night show to tape at Comic-Con. We couldn’t have asked for a better late-night host or a more enthusiastic ambassador for the TBS brand.

For a few moments we had at least entertained the notion of Conan O’Brien moving back to network to host the ‘Late Show,’ but what say you? Are you glad to see ‘Conan’ keeping to its TBS home for the time being?
