Here's something you don't see (or hear) every day during the 'American Idol' audition phase: a singing doctor! Dr. Calvin Peters, who is in his third year of residency, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation of spine, brain, burn and muscular injuries, showed us that he is a man of many amazing talents at tonight's (Jan. 24) Baton Rouge, La. audition.

The good doctor was a brave man, according to judge Keith Urban, for tackling R&B star Maxwell's 'Whenever, Wherever, Whatever.' This singing man of medicine had a smooth like buttah tone, one that made Mariah Carey label him as "handsome and unique." You know, he did look a bit like her hubby and dem babies' daddy Nick Cannon ...

But in all seriousness, Dr. Peters certainly earned his unanimous pass through to the next round. Nicki Minaj went as far as to say that he had better tone and technique than people who were sent to Hollywood ahead of him so far, so that bodes well for him.

We'll go on record to say that Dr. Calvin Peters is one to watch on Season 12 of 'Idol.'
