Fergie Talks Crystal Meth Addiction With Oprah
Before Fergie became a superstar as a solo artist and one of the singers of the Black Eyed Peas, she hit rock bottom and turned to crystal meth after her girl group Wild Orchid was dropped by its record label. The singer made the admission to Oprah Winfrey in the latest episode of ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter,’ which aired this past weekend.
The ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ singer told Oprah how she descended into drugs: “I got into a scene. I started going out and taking ecstasy. From ecstasy it went to crystal meth. With any drugs, everything is great at the beginning, and then slowly your life starts to spiral down.” She described her worst moment as being in a church and thinking that the FBI and swat teams were waiting for her outside. When she emerged from the building and discovered she had imagined the whole thing, she quit drugs immediately.
Fergie said she was only on drugs for about a year before she was able to get her life back on track. “What got me through it was a lot of therapy, soul searching, discovering why I took the drugs in the first place, because that’s really what it is,” she said.
With the Black Eyed Peas taking a break and Fergie trying to have kids with hubby Josh Duhamel, she hasn’t been in the spotlight much this year, but she did appear on an episode of ‘The Cleveland Show‘ and was featured on ‘Feel Alive,’ a song by Pitbull.
Catch Fergie’s entire chat with Oprah, in which she also discusses her sexuality and her future with the Black Eyed Peas, when it reruns on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 10 pm ET on OWN.
