Now that all the dust, fire, blood and snow has settled on Game of Thrones Season 6, it’s a comfort to look back on the crazier theories that never came to pass. No, Lady Stoneheart won’t be joining the series, and Bran won’t be whispering sweet-nothings to the Mad King just yet, but above all else, we can finally let go of that dumb “Sansa is pregnant” theory. So says Sophie Turner herself!

It all started rather superficially with conjecture about dress wrinkles in an early Season 6 photo of Turner, which, given the history of rape between Sansa and Ramsay Bolton, quickly mutated into rumors Sansa might end up pregnant over the course of Season 6. Nevermind the season’s efforts to resolve Ramsay Bolton and Northern unrest altogether, fans reading way into scripted lines, or the speed with which Sansa would be guzzling Moon Tea; Ramsay’s parting ninth episode words only lit the flame anew.

Now that Season 6 has wrapped, however, with nary a hint of motherhood in Sansa’s future (keep in mind how much time must have elapsed, for Theon to have made it from Winterfell to the Iron Islands, to Volantis, to Mereen), Turner tells The Hollywood Reporter that viewers were most certainly misinterpreting Ramsay’s words, which more likely refer to her picking up his taste for killing:

Do you mean literally or figuratively? (Laughs.) I think some people have taken [his words] very literally, thinking that she might be pregnant. Personally, I think it's more figurative, especially because months and months have gone on and Sansa really hasn't developed a baby belly. So I think he means he's going to forever be imprinted on her in a way that he's done such a terrible thing to her. He's taken something of hers that's so precious. I think he believes that will always be a part of her, but I think he underestimates just how strong she is, and just how easily she can forget him. Now that she's killed him she can forget him, and she can move on with her life.

In earnest, the theory itself was borne of an ugly, ill-thought desire to perpetuate Sansa’s torment, though it’s worth pointing out that Game of Thrones (as well many other series) often encourage similar kinds of fan speculation. Either way, Turner acknowledged that Season 7 would more likely see Sansa in an uneasy relationship with Jon, the newly-crowned “King in the North,” even forming a bit of jealousy for her half-brother (secretly cousin) gaining credit for her victory.

We’ll find out more on the long road to Season 7, but let the Sansa pregnancy go, guys. On to the next insane Game of Thrones theory!
