The sixth and final season of HBO’s Girls pulled a fast one announcing that Rogue One and all-around everywhere actor Riz Ahmed would drop by the final season, but consider all cats out of their respective bags. The season synopsis and first three episodes reveal the full complement of guests, including returnees like Corey Stoll, and newbies like Matthew Rhys, Tracey Ullman and more.

First and foremost, HBO released an overall synopsis for Girls’ final season, offering a slight update on where we’ll find each character when the final season begins:

Enjoying new success as a writer after participating in “The Moth,” Hannah gets an assignment that could change her life. Divorced from Desi, Marnie seeks to remain independent, but her self-absorption could undermine a budding relationship with Ray. New couple Jessa and Adam embark on a creative project that could become a source of contention. Shoshanna flourishes at a marketing agency, but realizes her friendships may be holding her back.

Elsewhere, in addition to the returns of Peter Scolari and Becky Ann Baker as Hannah’s parents, Rita Wilson as Marnie’s mother, Jon Glaser, Colin Quinn, and Corey Stoll, new guest stars this season include Riz Ahmed, Matthew Rhys and Tracey Ullman. The release left out Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Perretti and Aidy Bryant, while the February releases explain a bit further:

“All I Ever Wanted”

Riding a wave of newfound career success, Hannah (Lena Dunham) gets an assignment to write a story about a female surf camp in the Hamptons, where she meets Paul-Louis (Riz Ahmed), an uncomplicated waterski instructor. Hoping to break her old patterns post-divorce, Marnie (Allison Williams) tells Ray (Alex Karpovsky) he needs to spend more time at his own place, but Adam (Adam Driver) and Jessa’s (Jemima Kirke) intensity drives him out of the apartment.

“Hostage Situation”

Hannah (Lena Dunham) provides cover for Marnie’s (Allison Williams) secret weekender to Poughkeepsie, which she hopes will help clarify an old chapter in her life. Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) enlists Elijah (Andrew Rannells) to be her plus-one at a networking event for young professional women, where Jessa’s (Jemima Kirke) antics lead Shosh to reevaluate her post-college friendships.

“American Bitch”

Hannah (Lena Dunham) has a tense tête-à-tête with Chuck Palmer (Matthew Rhys) – an acclaimed author she once greatly admired – about the disturbing allegations swirling around him.

The first of Girls’ final episodes will bow on Sunday, February 12, the trailer for which you can find below.
