A few weeks ago we learned that 'Happy Endings' creator David Caspe had signed a new overall development deal at Sony Pictures TV, potentially one of the final nails in the coffin for the beloved and cancelled ABC series. The USA deal appears to have definitely fallen through, so is there any hope remaining for 'Happy Endings' in the coming weeks?

Sadly, very little. TVLine reports that Sony’s contractual hold on the in-demand cast of Zachary Knighton, Casey Wilson, Elisha Cuthbert, Damon Wayans Jr., Eliza Coupe and Adam Pally will expire later this week. Following USA's decision to pass on the series, no serious offers from either broadcast, cable, streaming or other remain on the table to save the series from a true death.

“A lot can happen in three days,” one optimistic 'Happy Endings' insider told the outlet, noting that Sony had frequently gone to bat for cancelled series and found new homes. “Sony will fight until the bitter end.” Following its initial cancellation in May, ABC entertainment president Paul Lee even went as far as to justify the axe to reporters curious about the network's target demographic:

I do think ‘Happy Endings’ is absolutely on brand. What we found was it was just too narrow. It was a very hard decision because, as you know, I love that show and I found it very hard to make that decision.

It certainly looks like 'Happy Endings' will perish unhappily ever after, but what say you? Have we heard our last "amahzing," or could another network step in?
