Today is National Pistachio Day.  I will admit, I love pistachios.  I usually have a bag on my desk, in my house, and sometimes even in my car.  A few years ago while traveling to Las Cruces, NM, we came a cross an amazing place to visit if you love pistachios.

We were driving along on our road trip and we were passing through Alamogordo, NM, and on the horizon.  I saw it, I saw a giant pistachio.   As a pistachio lover, I couldn't believe my eyes.   Of course, we had to stop and stop we did.

There is a place called Pistachioland on HWY 54/70 in Alamagordo, NM.  It's a wonderful place and located right there by the road, is the World's Largest Pistachio.  It was wonderful and lovely and amazing.

Plus, you have to go in and do some shopping in McGinn's Country Store.   They have so many variety of pistachios, and, they let you sample before you buy.  They have a pistachio sampling bar, you can try every single one of their amazing pistachios.   They were all good, buy my favorite was the green chile pistachios.  So I bought a pound of those and a few other flavors.   I would be remiss if I didn't mention, you can do a wine sampling with the Arena Blanca Winery.  They also have a wonderful gift shop with all sorts of fun pistachio gifts.

If you want to delve into further, they offer a tour of their pistachio farm.  For a few bucks you can go and see the pistachio orchards and the vineyards.   Plus, you'll learn the history of the farm and info about growing and harvesting pistachios and wine grapes.

It's a 5 1/2 hour drive from Amarillo, but if you love pistachios you'll love it.  Plus as long as you are heading that direction, keep driving and check out the White Sands National Monument while you are in the area.  You should also check out the Organ Mountains on your trip as well.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning your road trip today!
