Katy Perry to Be Featured at ASCAP Expo
ASCAP is one of the world’s largest performing rights organizations, which means it derives commissions from collecting songwriting royalties whenever an artist’s music is played on the radio or television. And because ASCAP artist Katy Perry‘s hits are pretty much always playing somewhere, she’s a logical choice for one of the guests of honor at this year’s ASCAP Expo.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Perry will be interviewed by ASCAP executive vice president Randy Grimmett, who will reportedly ask her about her “story of both talent and perseverance” and ask her to “share the ups and downs of her journey.” Perry will be in good company at the Expo, scheduled to run April 18-20 at Hollywood’s Loews Hotel; other artists in the lineup include Lionel Richie, Ne-Yo, Diplo, Big Sean, Ken Jordan of the Crystal Method, and RJD2.
Perry’s most recent album, 2010’s ‘Teenage Dream,’ proved an airplay bonanza, sending six singles to No. 1 and lodging another two in the Top 5; additionally, it has reaped seven Grammy nominations and sold more than six million copies worldwide. Somewhat understandably, Perry hasn’t been in any huge rush to follow it up, but she’s reportedly been in the studio since last fall, with an eye toward releasing her next record sometime this summer.
