Lady Gaga’s ‘Perfect Illusion’ First Lead Single to Miss U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Top 10

It's no illusion, Little Monsters: Lady Gaga's brand new song, "Perfect Illusion," is the pop star's first lead single to fail to debut within the Top 10 of Billboard's U.S. Hot 100 chart.

During its first week on the chart, the lead track from Joanne, the artist's forthcoming fifth studio album, landed at No. 15, making it Gaga's lowest ever single debut since "Just Dance," which debuted at No. 76 on August 16, 2008. That single eventually reached No. 1 after five months.

Meanwhile, Artpop's lead single, "Applause," debuted at No. 6 in 2013, while "Bad Romance" off The Fame Monster landed at No. 9 in 2009 and "Born This Way" shot straight to No. 1 in 2011.

However, it's much too early to drop the f-word — "flop," that is — since, as Digital Spy notes, "big pop songs take time to build on streaming platforms as users discover the track and add it to their daily playlists."

"Perfect Illusion," which is Gaga's 14th single to reach the Top 15, will likely take weeks before it hits its peak. The track is already a relatively successful digital seller, with over 100,000 downloads sold within its first week, according to Billboard.

Similarly, Mother Monster has yet to promote the single with any live TV performances or proper shows (sans for her surprise London gig on September 9), and she has not yet released its music video, views from which will eventually contribute to the song's chart performance. We'll see the video for the first time on FOX tonight (September 20) during the premiere of Scream Queens Season 2.
