Lady Gaga to Donate LennonOno Grant Money to AIDS Charity
Lady Gaga was awarded the LennonOno Grant for Peace by the venerable Yoko Ono on Tuesday (Oct. 9), and promptly announced that she would donate the accompanying grant money to her friend and collaborator Elton John‘s AIDS charity. So she acted in the true spirit of the award by making the donation.
“I will be donating this grant to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and I will be working closely with them to ensure that the money goes specifically to those orphaned and disadvantaged youth in America born with HIV or AIDS,” Gaga revealed in her acceptance speech.
So Gaga is not paying lip service. She is actually making sure the funds are allocated in a very specific way and exactly how she intends them to be.
The LOGFP is given out biennially (which is every two years) and Gaga was the recipient due to her work to support and further gay rights, something she is intensely passionate and tireless about.
Ono labeled the Mother Monster as “powerful,” and celebrated the fact that “she is using her power to do other things than just singing.” Truth.
The award is given to people who campaign for peace efforts. Some reports indicated that the amount of the coinciding grant has never been revealed, so we don’t know exactly how much Gaga will be donating to John’s AIDS charity; however, some reports have surfaced indicating that it was $50,000.
Whatever the case, but big ups to her for being so generous.
