October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Family Support Services wants to bring awareness to those living in the Amarillo area.  You may not think this is a problem in Amarillo but it is, over 4,566 calls came into the FSS Domestic Violence crisis hotline, and to the Amarillo and Canyon Police Departments as well as the Randall and Potter County Sheriffs office last year.

According to Jackie Bolden with Family Support Services, Amarillo had 8 homicides last year and 7 of those were domestic violence cases.

Nationally, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be the victim of domestic violence.  That averages to 20 people per minute being physically abused by a partner here in the United States.

Family Support Services is committed to bringing awareness to this epidemic and have several events this month to bring awareness to our community.
