If you're wanting to get out of town this weekend, and are looking for something fun to do, Canadian is having a festival tomorrow (9/25). It's the Calf Fry Festival & BBQ Cook-Off.

The Canadian River Beach Club is putting it on. It kicks off at 9 AM, so you'll need to wake up early if you're going to make it for the Bloody Mary Competition. That's not a bad way to kick off a BBQ competition.

Speaking of, you'll be able to walk around the grounds sampling what the cook teams have to offer. Honestly, this sounds like a pretty good way to kick off a weekend.

Then, after lunch, they're serving up calf fries.

Bloody Marys, BBQ, and calf fries are just what gets the day started. There's also bouncy houses for the kids, and the awards ceremony for the BBQ.

After the awards ceremony there's live music planned. Bloody Marys, BBQ, calf fries, and live music. You have to love an event like this.

There's a catch, as there usually is when things start sounding too good to be true. It's a BYOB event, and there's a very good reason why. Hemphill County is still dry, as in you won't be able to run and grab a six pack once you're there.

You'll need to bring whatever adult beverages you're planning on consuming. Also, no glass.

Events like this remind me of where I grew up. The small town I was raised in constantly had events like this, calf fries included. I think that's why I get so excited about this stuff. It reminds me of being a kid.
