Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong has had a hard time since he gave Oprah the straight dope (see what we did there?) on his years cheating at the sport. Now Armstrong's buddy Matthew McConaughey is coming to his defense.

In an interview with Details magazine, Matt says, "When it came out, I took it personally, but then I realized it ain't personal to him. I was going, 'That son of a b----!' But then I thought, 'Well, what was he supposed to do? Call me to the side and go, 'Hey, I did this'?"

The 'Magic Mike' star also said he takes solace from the fact that Lance has found some sort of inner peace since coming clean to the talk show host in January.

"I'm happy for him now, because despite all this outside conflict, he doesn't have this inner conflict anymore."

As for Armstrong's reputation, McConaughey says he may have told a lie, but asserts he is not "a liar."

If you tell the same lie repeatedly over a series of years and despite evidence to the contrary, does it still count as just one lie? We're not sure. But it's good to know that Matthew McConaughey is a loyal friend, and would probably give us the shirt off his back.

You know, if he ever wore them to begin with.
