On tonight’s installment of ‘The Voice’ (Nov. 26), 17-year-old Melanie Martinez delivered a charming and emotional performance of ‘Too Close’ by Alex Clare. As the show’s youngest contestant, she can’t quite believe that she’s still standing, but she has certainly proven that she’s a force to be reckoned with.

The song revolves around a couple splitting up – and since Martinez herself is going through a relationship breakup, the song hit very close to home. Equipped with an acoustic guitar, a foot tambourine and a modest band behind her, the young artist let her broken heart sing and shine on tonight’s episode. The eye-catching stage setup further highlighted her creative spirit.

“Your voice, it just melts me,” Blake Shelton gushed. “I’m so glad to see you back with the tambourine.” Christina Aguilera – who has always been a little harsh on her – even said, “That was my favorite performance by you so far.” Cee Lo Green remarked that the song “showcased the cool quality of voice that you always have … I thought this was a great rendition of a current record, and you made it your own.”

Her coach Adam Levine has stood behind her and supported her from the very beginning, and tonight was no exception. “I loved seeing an artist up there who’s concerned with every aspect of the performance … The way you do things is so well thought-out,” he praised. “I love what you do, so much.”
