When you are dieting, the last thing you want to put in your mouth is dessert.  You are avoiding that because that is what helped you put the weight on in the first place.  A new study suggests that adding desserts to breakfast can actually help you lose weight.

According to MSN:

The study consisted of clinically obese adults who were randomly split into two groups. Although both groups consumed the same amount of calories per day the first group were given a small low carbohydrate, 300 calorie breakfast and the second were given a 600 calorie high protein and carbohydrate breakfast that always included a dessert cake.

The study showed that half way through the 32-week program, both groups had lost the same amount of weight, but by the end of the program the second group of participants who added dessert to their breakfast — cookies, cake, or chocolate, lost an average of 18 kilos more than a group that avoided such foods.

Apparently the body's metabolism is highest in the morning so when you eat your dessert and a higher calorie meal for breakfast, you have the entire day to burn it off.

I don't know about you, but when I am on a diet all I want is the thing I cannot have and that is usually sweets.  Then when I cheat or finish the diet all I want to do is gorge on those things I wouldn't let myself have.  So this is a perfect indulgence while staying true to your weightloss.

So I guess the moral of this story is that you can have your cake and eat it too!
