Paula Deen has Type 2 diabetes is the rumor floating around about the popular Food Network Chef.  Paula Deen is best know for her fried, buttered and genuinely unhealthy recipes.  She is a Southern Cook and most recipes from the South are fried, dipped, creamed, buttered and who else knows what, but it is good food.    I grew up with a grandmother who was a southern cook, something at every meal was fried or covered in butter.  No one ever claimed that Paula Deen's recipes were healthy.  However, this new rumor may not come as a shock to some. So is the rumor true about Paula having Type 2 Diabetes true?  We will find out tomorrow when Paula sits down with Al Roker to discuss it on Today.

According to MSNBC:

Rumors that the 64-year-old Southern cook suffers from the disease have been persistent: Type-2 diabetes is associated with a diet that is high in fat and sugar – the type of diet she has been criticized for promoting through her TV cooking shows and cookbooks.

The National Enquirer first reported the diagnosis in April 2010. Deen has neither confirmed nor denied the reports – until now.

It is quite possible that Paula may have diabetes.  The chef has dropped a few pounds over the last couple of years and that may be her way of getting the disease under control.  However, we won't know until after tomorrow.

If she does, then this diagnosis will open up a whole new world of cooking for Paula and for those who suffer from diabetes.
