Reese Witherspoon feels there’s never been a more culturally and politically appropriate time to bring back the Legally Blonde franchise — she just needs a solid storyline to get the project off the ground.

Witherspoon spoke about the possibility of a Legally Blonde 3 during the Elle Women in Television dinner on Saturday (January 14), noting there’s been some talk about reviving her Elle Woods character, but nothing’s quite solidified just yet.

“We’ve thought about it,” she said via E! News. “I need somebody really clever to come up with a great idea, and we’ll do it. I do think it’s a good time now to do it. I think women need that kind of positivity right now.

The Wild actress also gave a diplomatic, measured answer when asked to comment on the forthcoming president-elect, Donald Trump -- who admitted on tape to potentially sexually assaulting several women -- and what his upcoming presidency could mean for women across the country.

"It's a great privilege to be a woman in America," Witherspoon responded. "We have many rights and freedoms that a lot of women don't have all over the world. I try to celebrate that. I try to live that to its utmost, particularly the freedom of speech, being able to express myself, create shows like this to show how important women are in our world. That's what I try to focus on."

This isn’t the first time Witherspoon has indicated a Legally Blonde 3 was potentially in the works. Back in October 2015, she admitted she’d be interested in reviving her role as Elle Woods during an appearance on Fashionably Late With Rachel Zoe.

“I actually think it’s kind of great right now, ‘cause we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women,” she said. “And I think it would be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court Justice, or someone who runs for office…President? It would be cool! I think we’re ready to see Elle and see what she’s up to lately.”
