Fans are eagerly awaiting the October 8 premiere of 'Supernatural' season 9, which will continue the escapades of Sam and Dean Winchester with a host of both new and familiar performers. We've been anticipating the arrival of a number of new characters, but certain fan-favorite and fan-forsaken others have remained question marks until now. Find out which foes and allies have been surprisingly excluded from 'Supernatural' season 9!

Via Entertainment Weekly, we've learned at least two characters prevalent in 'Supernatural' season 8 most likely won't make the leap into the coming ninth season. For one, reactions to Sam's "normal" girlfriend Amelia (Liane Balaban) may have run the gamut, but the character arc seems comfortably resolved and is unlikely to rear its head once again in season 9.

On the more demonic side of life, EW likely confirms that Meg (last played by Rachel Miner) might not be seen again any time soon, even as death within the 'Supernatural' world tends to be little more than a weigh station. Says showrunner Jeremy Carver on the matter:

Meg kinda died — everyone on Supernatural kinda dies. [I] can’t speak specifically to Meg right now. I personally thought the send-off episode that Robbie Thompson wrote for her is really wonderful. I think myself and Bob [Singer] — like anyone involved in Supernatural — when someone dies, you want it to count a little bit. So there are no immediate plans to bring her back.

Meanwhile, ‘Supernatural’ season 9 will feature the return of longtime series star Jim Beaver as his character Bobby Singer in an unknown capacity, while Felicia Day‘s Charlie Bradbury has been announced to pop up as well, and 'Battlestar Galactica' vet Tahmoh Penikett has joined in an angelic new role. Carver and Singer further previewed the CW drama’s ninth year, particularly the expanded role angels would play in the mythology going forward, and a secret that Dean will be keeping from Sam.

We'll shed fewer tears for Amelia than Meg, but what say you? Are you disappointed that 'Supernatural' season 9 may eschew a few past characters? Who do you hope to see show up when the long-running CW airs its ninth premiere on October 8?
