80s music

I have always been fascinated with how you can tie a bunch of songs together with a common theme. It could be 'Songs with female names in the title,' 'Songs about Space,' etc. I figured I'd put together a little list of tunes that will keep you 'cold' on this Winter day. Or, if you prefer, songs that you can 'chill' by.

During my vacation I was cleaning around the house and stumbled across some old music playlists from the early part of the 80s. Some of them were year end countdown lists. I thought since we're coming up on a brand new year that it might be fun to take a look back at the Top 40 songs that were the biggest hits of 1983.

While working in Bangor, Maine back in the 80's, the station I was at always did a year end countdown. Normally it was the Top 100 from the previous year. I've always been a fan of countdown and remember every Saturday morning from 6am-10am I would turn on my radio and listen to Casey Kasem 'count em down.' That got me thinking, I should track down the songs that ranked at #1 going into the brand

It's no surprise, the 80's was and still is my favorite decade. Since I started in radio in 1981, I've had many a 80's record ingrained in my memory. Sometimes that can be a good or bad thing, depending on the song. I can't even count how many times I played 'Island In The Streams' or 'Endless Love' every three and half hours back in the day...

It's hard to believe that the week is almost over. Which means that we're gearing up for another 'Best of the 80's Weekend.' I've spent most of the week going through the Mix Music Vault to find you some more great songs from the decade of excess.
