After months of hype and controversy, the big night is finally upon us. The red carpet has been rolled out, the votes have been cast, and host Jimmy Kimmel has rehearsed all his best Matt Damon jokes. At last, the 89th Academy Awards have arrived.
It’s been close to a year since we learned True Detective and Beasts of No Nation director Cary Fukunaga had officially set a Netflix return to direct Jonah Hill and Emma Stone in new dark comedy series Maniac, which at long last is finally moving forward. Reports suggest that production will take place later this year, potentially setting a 2018 premiere.
The traditional SNL promos of a week’s host paired with a cast member may be no more, but do we at least get a big La La Land-style musical number in exchange? Almost! Emma Stone returns to SNL in the first December 2016 promos, but … well, something’s in the way.

SNL dusted off the November sketch for another round, this time including Matthew McConaughey, along with impressive impressions the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Shia LaBeouf and more.
Disney began developing a Cruella De Vil movie a few years ago, but with the success of the similarly villain-oriented Maleficent and their live-action Cinderella redo, the Cruella project has been put on the fast-track with Fifty Shades of Grey scribe Kelly Marcel penning the screenplay. Although the project does not yet have a director, it may be close to signing a star, as Emma Stone is in talks to portray the iconic 101 Dalmatians villain and demented fur connoisseur.
