March 26, 2013 I was channel surfing last night and landed on Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie 'Predator.' It wasn't one of my favorite AH-Nold movies, but all-in-all, it was a decent flick. But that got me thinking about some movies that I thought were great and then how Hollywood had to go 'back to the well' and start cranking out sequels. Not all sequels are bad, but as the numbers got bigger, the plots got smaller.
When 'The Adventures of Tintin' was released last December it was supposedly the start of a trilogy that Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg were going to produce together and trade off directing duties. The film didn't perform strongly in America (though that was expected), but international numbers didn't made a sequel look like a done deal. Now Jackson has weighed in on the follow up, and it's going to happen.
March 1, 2012 (Insert Moan Here) Really? I didn't even know that there was a discussion about a sequel to Top Gun. Seriously? Can you really go back and make a sequel to one of the best movies ever? Can you? I'm sure it will revolve around some Navy Pilot punks that get into Top Gun and have to deal with Maverick as an instructor. You know the same basic principle as the original Top Gun but with Tom Cruise in the Tom Skerritt role. See there, Tom in the Tom role, its fated right?
January 27, 2012 A new video has hit the internet featuring Ferris Bueller. The teaser video ends with 2.5.12 which is the date of the Superbowl. Did Ferris sell out for a commercial or is it going to be a teaser for a sequel for Ferris Bueller's Day Off?
September 7, 2011 One of my favorite movies from the 80's is Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton was awesome playing this crazy dead character that caused all sorts of trouble in the world of the dead. Of course, who could forget the crazy dance he caused at the dining table to Day O (the Banana Boat Song), or trying to take Winona Ryder as a bride. Plus, I think this movie was the skinniest Alec Baldwin had ever been. Rumor has it that after 23 years, we may finally see a sequel to the 1988 hit.
February 17, 2011 I love a good movie, what's even better is when that movie is so good they make a sequel. Most of the time sequels don't live up to the original but in some cases like Toy Story 3 they are even better than the original. 2011 seems to be the year of the sequels.
