After delivering two great Spider-Man films back-to-back (and almost singlehandedly launching a new era of superhero franchises), Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 left fans and critics feeling a bit disappointed. With one too many villains, that famous Peter Parker dance sequence (which I actually like!) and reports of Sony’s meddling, Raimi’s third film in the series ultimately proved to be his last when he abandoned plans for Spider-Man 4 back in 2010 — leaving us wondering what his fourth film might have looked like. Thankfully, we don’t have to wonder (much) anymore.

It’s all very much happening — following Sony and Marvel’s reveal of the official title and logo for Spider-Man: Homecoming, casting has already begun, as the studios are eyeing Michael Keaton for a villainous role in the web-slinger’s new reboot. Although Vulture was recently rumored to be a villain in the film, it’s unclear if this is the role Keaton would play, though it would keep the Birdman star in familiar, um, territory.

When Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios agreed on a deal to essentially share Spider-Man, the first thing they decided on was that he would be formally introduced in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. After all, if you’re going to have a deal with Marvel, you might as well take advantage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and their many characters...

Since the news that Spider-Man would be joining The Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we couldn't help but wonder what that was going to look like. It was a possibility that many movie fans had hoped for for years, but were told was never going to happen. We didn't even let our minds think of what could be. Sony is already working on a 'Sinister Six' movie that would put the Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler's villains front and center in their own story; according to a new report, they're also considering a movie focused on Aunt May, Spider-Man's lovable caretaker, played in the current 'Amazing Spider-Man' franchise by the great Sally Field.

Just yesterday, we heard the very sad and strange tale of acrimony that currently exists between Marvel and Fox, the studio that owns the 'X-Men' and 'Fantastic Four' movie rights. It will very likely be a cold day in hell by the time we ever see the likes of Iron Man and Wolverine pair up on the big screen (regardless of what Hugh Jackman says), but is it possible that The Avengers could actually be crossing over with another superhero from another universe? Namely, The Amazing Spider-Man?

Yet now Sony has alerted us there will be a sequence touting future Spider-Adventures, but not the way you'd expect.
