Though we've known for some time that the current season of 'The Office' would represent the final year for Jim, Pam and the other Dunder-Mifflin crew, some months ago development began on the Dwight Schrute spin-off 'The Farm,' to be aired as a backdoor pilot in 'The Office's final season. Somewhat sparingly, NBC decided not to go through with the Schrute-centric spin-off, but what of the material shot? New reports say NBC plans to give a fitting end to Dwight Schrute, using a modified version of 'The Farm' to do so. Find out the changes inside!

'The Office's Dwight Schrute-centric spin-off 'The Farm' may never see the light of day as a series, but NBC isn't scrapping the idea entirely. According to a recent conversation between 'The Office' show-runner Greg Daniels and TVLine the NBC comedy's final year will indeed air "The Farm" as an episode, albeit with a few minor changes to reflect NBC's decision to pass on the spin-off.

Describing the pilot of 'The Farm' as "a very good episode," Daniels clarifies “we’re not going to air exactly what it was, because it has certain aspects that were appropriate for a pilot of a new show. We’re going to shoot a little additional material to make it fit into the season more.”

Specifically, Daniels confirms the new material might reflect a happy ending for Dwight and Angela, whose longtime relationship would likely be written to bite the dust if 'The Farm' went through to series. 'Office' star Angela Kinsey has her own project being set up with FOX, and wouldn't have taken part in the 'Office' spin-off.

Focusing on Dwight inheriting a bed and breakfast to run, the spin-off was to feature ‘Parks and Recreation‘ show-runner Mike Schur returning to the role of Cousin Mose, as well as Tom Bower playing Dwight’s great-uncle Heinrich, ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Community‘ star Matt Jones as Dwight’s mysterious cousin Zeke,  Thomas Middleditch as Dwight’s younger brother Jeb, and sister Fanny (‘Roswell’s Majandra Delfino).

Well, what say you? Are you happy to see 'The Farm' in one form or another? Do you think Dwight and Angela should end up together when 'The Office' closes its doors this May?
