1872 – The first woman nominated to be president was Victoria Woodhull. The National Equal Rights Party nominated her back on this day.
1893 – The tomato was officially declared a fruit and not a vegetable by the Supreme Court. It was the case of Nix vs. Hedden.

1924-J. Edgar Hoover was appointed the 6th Director of the Bureau of Investigation. The BOI changed its name in 1936 to what we know today, FBI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

1976 – Kiss’ “Spaceman” Ace Frehley married Jeanette Trerotola. One of Ace’s friends kissed Jeanette’s dad, a very important Teamster, on the lips. A riot nearly broke out at the reception.
1980 – The original “Friday the 13th” was released. It starred anunknown actor by the name of Kevin Bacon.
1986 – Tommy Lee of Motley Crue married actress Heather Locklear. They divorced in 1993.
1994 – Nelson Mandela became South Africa’s first black president.
1994 – The Killer Clown a.k.a John Wayne Gacy was executed by lethal injection. Gacy killed 33 teenage boys between 1972 and 1978. He buried most of them under his house.
2005 – Seal and Heidi Klum got married on a beach in Mexico.
