Today is National Peanut Butter Day! We should all rejoice. Especially if we are trying to lose weight!

Yes, that is some great news! I always think of peanut butter as a comfort food. Thoughts of good 'ol mom making me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as a child. It takes me back.

I would never think that glorious creamy or chunky snack could actually be good for me! Oh but it really is!

How can something so creamy and delicious have health benefits? Well according to nutritionists nuts are a high fat, calorie-dense addition to any meal or snack. With that being said you shouldn't ignore the multiple benefits of including those healthy fats in our diet.

Turns out that polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats like those found in nuts actually help us to lower our total cholesterol. They also help us with our LDL while increasing our HDL (good cholesterol),

Increasing our intake of peanut butter can be shown to aid with weight-loss and the reduction in body fat.

So while you are looking for a healthy snack for your mid-morning or afternoon snack, maybe you should reach for some peanut butter to dip your apples slices in.

Or you can make this favorite of mine to also dip fruit in. Grab a cup of unflavored greek yogurt. Go ahead and mix some peanut butter and honey in it. Oh and sprinkle some cinnamon on top. This creamy dip is not only delicious but healthy for you too!
