Back in the 80s and 90s TV series actually had songs as their theme songs.  Real songs.  Friends had The Rembrandts I'll Be There for You, Golden Girls had Thank You for Being a Friend, originally by Andrew Gold sung by Cynthia Fee on the show.  However, these days it is hard to find a show without an instrumental as their theme song.  So I started search and found some of the best current series with actual an actual song with lyrics as their theme song.

  • Sons of Anarchy

    This Life

    By Curtis Stigers

The song was written by Curtis Stigers,  Velvet Revolver guitarist Dave Kushner, producer Bob Thiele Jr. and show creator Kurt Sutter.  You know when you hear those first cords, you are about to embark on a journey into the life of a motorcycle club.

Sons of Anarchy is in its 6th Season on FX.  Tuesday Nights 6pm.

  • True Blood

    Bad Things

    Jace Everett

Jace Everett wrote and recorded Bad Things for his self-titled album.  He released the song in 2005.  It didn't chart.  True Blood used it as their theme song when it premiered in 2008.

The final season of True Blood premieres on HBO in June.

  • Big Bang Theory

    Big Bang Theory Theme Song
  • New Girl

    Hey Girl

    Zooey Dechanel

Zooey Deschanel is the lead in this TV series, however, she is a very talented singer.  The actress wrote and recorded the theme song for the show.

New Girl airs on Fox on Tuesday at 8pm.

  • Community

    At Least It Was Here

    The 88

The 88 provided the theme song for Community.  They are no stranger to writing and producing theme songs or movie scores.

Community is set to premiere on January 2nd on NBC.
