1830 - The CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS was organized by JOSEPH SMITH in Fayette, New York.

1868 - Mormon Church leader and Utah governor BRIGHAM YOUNG married his 27th and final wife.  He was 69.  He had 47 children.

1926 - Q-TIPS COTTON SWABS were introduced.  At the time, they were called "BABY GAYS".

1930 - HOSTESS TWINKIES WERE INVENTED. Interesting fact:  You know that urban legend that Twinkies have a shelf life of many years?  That's actually not true.  A Twinkie's shelf life is really only about 25 days.

1930 - HAROLD "BUNNY" LEVITT made 499 CONSECUTIVE FREE THROWS.  He missed on his 500th try.  Then he made 371 more shots without a miss.  The Harlem Globetrotters offered $1,000 to anyone who could beat his record.

1954 - TV DINNERS WERE FIRST PUT ON SALE BY SWANSON & SONS.

1968 - PINK FLOYD announced that founder SYD BARRETT had officially left the group due to psychiatric disorders compounded by drug use.

1973 - Baseball died a little bit when RON BLOMBERG became the FIRST DESIGNATED HITTER in the pros.

1987 - GENE AUTRY became the first person ever honored with FIVE STARS ON THE HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME .  one for each of the five categories in which stars are awarded:  Motion Pictures, Television, Radio, Recording and Live Theater.

1991 - Former child actor ADAM RICH was arrested for breaking into a pharmacy.  He's best known as adorable little Nicholas Bradford on "Eight Is Enough".

1992 - "BARNEY AND FRIENDS" DEBUTED ON PBS.

1993 - Ex-KISS drummer PETER CRISS settled out of court with the "Star" tabloid.  He had filed a lawsuit against them for a story that claimed he was a homeless alcoholic.  But he was NOT an alcoholic.

1998 - Country legend TAMMY WYNETTE died at her home in Nashville.  She was 55 years old.
