Uncalled For Comments About The Panhandle Wildfires

UPDATE: Ashley released a statement and apoligy from her blog you can read the full blog HERE

It’s me, admitting I should’ve done my research instead of just trying to make a quick one liner after something a cohost said.

Of course I understand what I said hurt many people.  I also understand that it was a stupid, dumb mistake.

Something we and all local media companies in the panhandle strive for is representing the community in the best light we can. We make sure the local citizens are number one on our list.

I’ve been walking around the office talking to co-workers about the situation that happened yesterday. If you don’t know an on-air personality made a comment about the recent wildfire’s in the panhandle saying, “BBQ for everyone.”

" It’s easy to say something about a situation when you’re not directly linked to it. "A lot of the response from the office here was how disconnected the statement was. “It’s easy to say something about a situation when you’re not directly linked to it.”

Our on-air talent mentioned how crucial it is to really think about what you say before you put it out to such a large audience. “What we say has a profound effect on those who tune into us every day.”

The cattle that perished in the fire are the panhandles livelihood. Families tend to their livestock every day to keep a roof over their head. I personally have no idea the work and effort it takes to keep livestock, in turn, makes it something I don’t joke about. " What we say has a profound effect on those who tune into us every day. "

Another one of our air talents explained how natural disasters show how powerless the human race is. “…With all the technology and equipment we have to make our daily lives easier, we still struggle with natural disasters. I don’t see how that’s a joke.”

While the DJ who made the statement said it’s something her family jokes about. There were lives lost (Cade Koch, Emmert Sloan, Cody Crockett, and Sydney Wallace.) Seeing the photo of a wife, holding her child, as she buries her husband is not something anyone can joke about. See the photo here.

Fire Hits Close To Home For Townsquare Media Employee

First responders are crucial to our way of life. The winds were so strong the day of the fire. Firefighters don’t think twice about sacrificing their lives, they took on the ever growing blaze without hesitation.

Just goes to show outsiders how close we are as a culture in Texas, “Don’t mess with Texas.”
