UPDATE: Body Found In Amarillo Has Been Identified
The police have determined official cause of death.
Update 8 a.m. - The body found in Amarillo was identified as 30-year-old Gary Garcia He was killed by multiple gun shots to his torso. Garcia was listed as a missing person in Amarillo on August 3rd.
The body of an unidentified person was discovered by tree trimmers in north Amarillo on Thursday, August 25th. It was found off the side of the road on Cherry Avenue, which is just south of River Road High School.
Potter County Sheriff's Office said that it was a male of unknown age. They do not know the cause of death at this point, nor how long the body was at the scene before it was discovered.
The sheriff's office called out Special Crimes to handle the investigation. They will release more information as it becomes available.
In 2015, there were 651 violent crimes between January and July. Statistics about the second half of the year have not been released yet. Crime rates have risen in the Amarillo area over the past few years, even gaining national attention for being one of the most dangerous cities in Texas.
