These summer temperatures can get very hot.  Imagine having to drive around town all day without an air conditioner.  It would be miserable.  Well, UPS drivers do that day to day.

Summer is in full swing an along with it comes temperatures in the high 90s and sometimes even into the 100 degrees.  It can be miserable.  Now, imagine being in a car without air conditioning.  Cars usually get 10-15 degrees hotter.  That is getting into some dangerous heat conditions.

UPS trucks are known not to have air conditioning units making their driver's job a hot one.  So why don't UPS trucks have an A/C?  They are a delivery truck that has no doors and the drivers are consistently getting in and out, an A/C is believed to be ineffective and a waste.  The ideology behind it is that the cool air would consistently escape and having no doors would actually help air circulate and keep the drivers cool.

The drivers, however disagree.  UPS drivers in Arizona and across the country have started a petition to get A/Cs in their trucks.  They are saying that the company is putting them at risk for heat stroke or worse by working in these extreme temperatures day after day.

Here are some of the comments from the petition page:

"YOU CAN NOT EVEN LEAVE YOUR PET IN A HOT CAR WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A PERSON WORK IN A HOT UPS TRUCK?"

"It's time UPS air conditions the trucks. It is Hot in Texas and our drivers deserve it. For safety reasons. It's time to update their thinking."

"I think these drivers deserve to be comfortable while doing their job. It gets extremely hot & the drivers should not have to risk a heat stroke because they are driving trucks that are extremely hot "

The petition is looking for 150,000 signatures and has already reached 132,495.  People from all over the country have already signed.   When asked 'What Can Brown Do For You?'  Drivers are saying air conditioners.

What do you think?  Do you think that employers should be responsible for making sure employees are working under safe conditions?  Are air conditioning units a must?
